What better way to celebrate school spirit than by hosting a spirit week for all students to enjoy? This month ASB celebrated the first Spirit Week of the year. A series of thematic days were planned by the Student Council with the goal of encouraging students to show their school spirit, as well as generate excitement for the Homecoming dance.
Spirit Week kicked off with a House color competition and a volleyball game against BFIS on Monday. Students dressed to match the color of their House: red for Apollo, yellow for Athena, blue for Poseidon, and green for Artemis. During last period, all high school students watched the ASB Juvenil Girls dominate the BFIS Girls on the court, with ASB winning all 3 sets. Both the school’s victory and the House spirit contributed to a wonderful start of the Homecoming week. Laia Planas, a ninth grader from Artemis, explained, “We didn’t have houses back in middle school, so it’s cool that we have them in high school.”
On Tuesday, ASB saw double when students matched clothes and accessories to celebrate Twin Day. Many people even coordinated their whole outfits, showing just how strong our ASB friendships are!
On Wednesday we kept it classy with Everyone Wears a Tie Day! Students showed their spirit by wearing ties of all different colors, with many fully committing to the theme and showing up in suits! Everybody really enjoyed this day, with many calling it their favorite and hoping to see different variations in the future.
On Thursday, students not only showed off their school spirit but also their spirit for home countries to celebrate International Day. Students brought flags, face paint, and, with the World Cup fast approaching, many sported football uniforms from their favorite teams. “We really get to see other people’s creativity,” a student commented enthusiastically.
Spirit Week came to a close with students rocking their coziest pajamas to celebrate Pajama Day! The abundance of great pajama pants, sweatshirts, and slippers kept students comfortable all day, with some kids even matching with their friends.
While all spirit days saw great participation, International Day and Pajama Day were the favorites. Many students also had great ideas for future spirit days such as Anything but a Backpack, Gender Swap, and Sports Day.
Spirit Week was a definite success, with requests from students for even more spirit days throughout the year. As well as with ASB’s first ever homecoming being on Thursday, November 17th, there is no lack of school spirit at ASB!
