AS & B(eyond): Insights and Updates on ASB Student Life

As students settle into their first few weeks of school, activities including sports and Spotlight pick up again. The reset of House points for the 2022 to 2023 school year marks a fresh start; Apollonians, holders of the 2021 to 2022 House Cup, strive to maintain their streak, but another house has different ideas…

Bringing Down the House (Points)

To kick off the year, Student Council held a trivia game during the September 1st assembly; Poseidon emerged victorious, taking the first 100 points of the year! Congratulations, Poseidon! To all of the other houses: keep your spirits up and your eyes peeled for upcoming house competitions.

Will You Make the Cut? Auditioning for Spotlight’s Grease

This year the ASB Spotlight team is taking on the iconic Grease. Play auditions, held September 5th, garnered great attention; after a blast-filled summer, many people turned out to demonstrate their singing talents and Sandy potential. “I’m always a little nervous for the auditions, but there is never a moment when any of the four directors makes you feel badly about yourself,” stated Mimi Newland, an eleventh grader from Poseidon. “They are truly the backbone and what makes Spotlight so special.” Meanwhile, backstage, the crew gets ready for another action-packed production. Sofia Kragsterman, an Athenian tenth grader, gives us some insight: “I think the show will be a big success; everyone from cast to crew to directors is pumped and putting in our all.”

The Lynx Den: Sporting Events (Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball)

Flocks of high school students, ranging from ninth through twelfth grade attend the ongoing sports tryouts. For those who have not yet signed up but would like to, parents can sign students up through MyASB. Coach Plancke notes, “The ASB community loves how many High School students are trying out for our teams this year,” and offers a word of advice to all prospective ASB athletes: “We hope that you give your best effort and show the coaches what you are capable of. Best of luck! Go Lynx!”

Student Body Fundraisers and Volunteer Work

Although there are no current fundraisers, students can look forward to StuCo’s introduction of the fundraising calendar, which will allow students to schedule their fundraisers in order to achieve success!
