What exactly is the Met Gala? ? Well, the Met Gala, more formally called the Costume Institute Gala or the Costume Institute Benefit and also known as the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. Marking the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit, the Gala happens every year, and tons of celebrities come to the event. There is a certain theme to each Gala and the celebrities have to come to the event wearing something matching the theme. People from all over the world love the event and enjoy seeing what the celebrities wear each year. Every year whenever the Met Gala happens it gets a lot of publicity from the people and especially the press.
Throughout the years the Met Gala has been a thing everyone was looking forward to and everyone loved when the time came and it has been like that for a long time. Until this year. The Met Gala this year was a major disaster. The Gala this year was just horrible in so many ways and this year was the worst year for it and it’s going to impact it in the upcoming years. How exactly was it bad you ask? Well, firstly the theme: American Independence Secondly, the people. This year, there were fewer people there at the event and fewer high-profile celebrities. For example, neither Lady Gaga nor Zendaya was in attendance. The biggest reason the Gala flopped this year, however, was because of the outfits. Hardly any of the celebrities that attended actually stuck to the theme. A lot of them just wore something completely different. For example, Lil Nas X wore a giant silver outfit that had 3 outfits inside and none of them fitted the theme. There were also a lot of questionable outfits this year, for example, Frank Ocean. He brought a neon baby doll with him and wore a plain black outfit and that was completely off the theme. There are many outfits that are questionable but there are some outfits that were amazing and beautiful.
The Gala took a big hit this year with their theme and outfits that did not even match the theme “American Independence” at all. I think it’s going to take a bit of time for the theme to get back on their feet; hopefully, in the future, the committee will select better themes and the celebrities will wear better outfits; overall, however, I can’t wait to see next year’s Gala.
