How “Shang Chi and The Legend Of The Ten Rings” Proved Everyone Wrong

Every Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie that has been made so far always has some big fancy trailer that hypes people up and wants them to watch it, and that usually works and it profits the MCU. Always before a Marvel movie is released people are talking about it and how they think it’s going to be and usually it’s all positive reviews and once they see the movie their assumption on it is correct. Well, for Shang Chi it was different: People thought that the movie was going to be bad, namely critics and MCU fans. Shortly after the trailer for the movie was released, people online started saying that it was going to be a disappointment and a box office flop. When the movie had a carpet event before its release no one talked about it even though there are always people at the event because they’re excited about the movie but for Shang Chi, no one talked. Marvel did a bad job promoting the movie and as a result of that, it didn’t get talked about much or hyped up.

Once the movie was released, it was all everyone was talking about. The movie itself was a hit at the box office and tons of people love it. They were proved wrong and they enjoyed the movie more than they thought initially. On opening day it made $75,388,688 across 4,300 movie theaters. It even has a 92% rating on the Tomatometer from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 98% audience rating. It’s only been a little over a week and the movie already made 175,735,578 dollars worldwide.

Let’s compare that to Black Widow, another MCU film, which came out this summer as well. Black Widow has been out for over a month now. In the box office, Black widow made $80,366,312 on domestic opening. Although that’s more than Shang Chi, right now it’s made 175,735,578 million dollars and Black Widow has made 372,495,287 million dollars having been out over a month. This shows how popular Shang Chi is right now and how it’s only been 9 days and it’s made half of Black Widow already.

Sure, Shang Chi might not make as much as previous MCU movies, but considering its initial negative reviews and press, Shang Chi is doing amazingly well!
