The High Stakes of Gambling: How It Shapes Our Minds and Lives

Win or lose, it will not end well. After all, the only thing that you really gain from gambling is an addiction. It’s rigged, and they are open about it. You should never gamble, no matter how much money you have and how much you know about it. In the end, the house always wins, either your money or your mind.

Why do people gamble?

People often gamble to make money, which is not a good idea. This is because gambling puts your money at stake, meaning you can win money but also lose money. An example of a severe victim to this is a man known as “Togi,” who has won lots of money but, in the long run, lost most of his money. He might have won a car, might have won thousands, but lost millions. Looking at this, you might think, “Oh, I can just quit when I get that car,” but that is where your addiction comes into play.

Gambling and its downsides

When you think you can quit whenever you want, it’s not true. This is because most gamblers win, and then they think, “I won now; why wouldn’t I win again?” Part of gambling is not knowing when you will lose, and people think that just because they won huge amounts of money, they won’t lose it back to the house (the casino or dealer). This is how casinos get to make you lose all the money you won. Maybe you did leave with the money you had, but then you will start thinking, “What if I won more?” That thought will stay in your head until you go test your luck again, and it doesn’t turn out the way you wanted it to. Out of panic, you blindly deposit more money, and if you lose again, you will go into great despair, only thinking of when you will be able to get that money back. At this point, casinos not only get their money, but your money as well. You will keep coming back, trying to win back the money you lost, and probably end up losing more. When you are here, you have gotten caught in the cycle of gambling and only feel its downsides. You might have won money after, but it wouldn’t feel the same, since you are not going to get back all the money you originally had.  Due to gambling being an addiction, it is also very hard to withdraw. Once you are addicted, it is all you think about, do, and feel excited about. You will need external help from someone else to be able to withdraw from this addiction.

In conclusion, gambling is never worth its benefits, since you are not only betting your money but also your mental health with it. In the long run, winning is also losing, which is why so many professionals and psychologists heavily advise you to never gamble. I know many people who have gotten into gambling and then became addicted, unable to withdraw since.

This is why gambling is 18+. Please listen to your advisors/guardians before making such a dangerous decision on your own. You cannot save yourself from your addictions; only someone else can. If you are addicted and want to stop, please find someone that can help you.
