Fun, energetic and chaotic, Quentin Tarantino once again entrapped the viewer in another of his jumbled, yet natural, films. Even though Jackie Brown is not one of Tarantino’s most known features, it brightly displays his lively style, while being, by far, his most conventional and romantic film. It’s a perfect feature for those who are not the biggest fans of graphic scenes but still enjoy Tarantino’s thrill. As always, he doesn’t fail to impress the viewer with the film’s texture, weaving all the threads of the plot together and bringing a satisfying ending to the screen once again. Jackie Brown is another great example of how Tarantino plays with different timelines but manages to execute them logically and with quality.
The story follows Jackie, a cunning flight attendant, who transports gun-profit money from Mexico to the States for Ordel, an illegal firearms dealer. During one of their endeavors, Jackie is confronted by the police and decides to cooperate with them. In order for their plan to work, Jackie has to convince Ordel that in reality, through this cooperation, she will help Ordel avoid the police and safely get all of his money to him. However, what neither Ordel or the police know is that Jackie is scamming both of them and has thought of a scheme to get all of Ordel’s money for herself.
The film is incredibly energetic and brings a relatively basic plot to life. It engulfs the viewer and makes them feel like they are inside the film, watching all the events unfold in real life. This is due to its casual pace, genuine and natural dialogue, and its humorous nature. The characters are also thought through perfectly. They are made very realistically; some skeptical, some greedy, some clever, and some anxious. While watching Jackie Brown, viewers can often relate to the characters, connecting their bizarre experiences to everyday life and laughing at every trait they can identify with. Comedic and satirical, just like Tarantino’s other films, Jackie Brown carries a certain playful feel to it, which never fails to create an amazing atmosphere and an incredible feature.
