Who is Taylor Swift?
Taylor Swift is a world-famous, inspiring singer and songwriter who was born on the 13th of December 1989 in West Reading, Pennsylvania. Taylor began taking singing lessons at the age of 9 in New York City and then became inspired by other artists to shift and focus on country music. At the age of twelve, she was taught to play guitar by Ronnie Cremer, a computer repairman, who led her to write her first-ever song, “Lucky You”. Her first meeting with record labels came from modeling for the brand Abercrombie & Fitch, since one of her very first original songs became included on the show’s compilation CD. Two years later, her family relocated to Nashville, where she transferred from a nearby high school to Aaron Academy to better adapt to her touring schedule through homeschooling (The Swift Museum ). In those years, Taylor also began to work with songwriter Liz Rose during her two-hour writing sessions every Tuesday afternoon after school. Shortly after, she became the youngest artist signed by Sony but left the group at age 14. A few years later, in 2005, Taylor Swift caught the attention of a record executive named Scott Borchetta, who was preparing to establish an independent record label called Big Machine Records. Taylor became one of their first signings, and shortly after, she released her first single, “Tim McGraw” which reached the top 5 on the US Billboard and stayed there for nearly five years. Since then, Taylor has become the youngest person to be awarded the BMI Songwriter of the Year title (2007), and she won awards at the CMAs, ACMs, and AMAs while also being nominated for Best New Artist at the 50th Grammy Awards( The Swift Museum ). In 2009, Swift’s first headlining concert tour, The Fearless Tour, earned over 63 million dollars, and that same year she was named “Female Artist of The Year.” Even now, more than a decade later, Taylor Swift remains an iconic and inspiring idol for many and still holds the title of “Best Artist of the Year”.
Taylor boosts the economy
In only the first few months of the Eras tour, a boost to local, state, and national economies was already felt. Even new phrases such as “Swiftonomics” have come up which refer to the huge economic impact of Taylor Swift in an economical manner as well as her impact on various other sectors. In August 2023, hotel rooms in Cardiff, Liverpool, and Edinburgh, where Taylor will set foot on stage in June 2024 had already reached maximum occupancy levels on her tour dates (Investopedia ). Some of the rooms were even booked for more than 230 dollars more than they normally would. In addition, Taylor Swift doesn’t only influence the city she visits. When she announced her concert in Australia, Air New Zealand announced it was adding more than 2,000 seats, as well as various new flights in order to successfully cope with the demand of the “Swift surge”. The Eras tour hasn’t only brought us the new term “Swiftonomics” but also “funflation” which is when consumers are willing to spend money on fun experiences like concerts despite high inflation.
An idol for millions
As clearly demonstrated, Taylor Swift has been able to become an idol for millions of people across the planet. At a very young age, she was already capable of influencing many people with her songs and has continued to do so more than 20 years later. Her music has been able to reach and create change in many people and sectors in our world. Taylor Swift has been and will remain one of the most significant artists the world has ever seen.
