{"id":950,"date":"2023-05-12T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-12T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blueandread.asbarcelona.com\/?p=950"},"modified":"2023-05-11T16:47:33","modified_gmt":"2023-05-11T16:47:33","slug":"the-last-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blueandread.asbarcelona.com\/?p=950","title":{"rendered":"The Last Game"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I take out my chemistry homework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now is as good a time as ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I occasionally glance up to watch my brother at bat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He strikes out, but we clap and cheer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I watch as his teammates give him high fives and pats on the back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is adored by his family and the admiring crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I snuggle up in my puffy coat and blanket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blinding lights cast their glow onto the baseball field,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remembering the dozens of games I have been to,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How this could be the last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I remember eating strawberry donuts and watermelon at games in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I remember bringing my dolls and playing behind the bleachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I remember coloring in my notepad with Crayola crayons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s almost summer, yet it\u2019s a frigid night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A man says it\u2019s because we\u2019re close to the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I nod and blow into my cupped hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I bite into a handful of potato chips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tiny crumbs fall onto my legs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I try to eat them off my lap, but they are too small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents start leaving the stands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I put away my chemistry homework because I have finished,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the game is now over.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I take out my chemistry homework.
