{"id":468,"date":"2022-09-30T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-30T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blueandread.asbarcelona.com\/?p=468"},"modified":"2022-09-29T13:47:15","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T13:47:15","slug":"the-best-of-the-2022-vmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blueandread.asbarcelona.com\/?p=468","title":{"rendered":"The Best of the 2022 VMAs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>While Kanye West didn\u2019t steal Taylor Swift\u2019s mic and Lady Gaga didn\u2019t show up in a meat dress, this year\u2019s MTV Video Music Awards were still full of shocking wins and surprising moments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With over 75 million views on YouTube, Taylor Swift\u2019s music video for \u201cAll Too Well\u201d (10 Minute Version) (Taylor\u2019s Version) was at the top of most prediction lists for Video of the Year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2021\/11\/16\/all-too-well-short-film-review-article\/\">The Harvard Crimson<\/a> dubbed it, \u201ca masterpiece we\u2019ll remember \u2018All Too Well.\u2019\u201d Unsurprisingly, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tollGa3S0o8\">14 minute long video<\/a> starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O\u2019Brien won Video of the Year, Best Longform Video, and Best Direction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her Video of the Year acceptance speech, Swift dropped the bombshell that a new album titled \u201cMidnights\u201d will be released on October 21st of this year; this news about &#8220;Midnights,&#8221; an album <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Ch1Ed_Su6Qw\/?hl=en\">described<\/a> by Swift as a &#8220;collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through tears and sweet dreams,&#8221; came as a major shock, as most fans expected her next album to be another re-recording. In addition to her other victories of the night, Swift also set a new record for most Video of the Year awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harry Styles\u2019 latest album \u201cHarry\u2019s House\u201d was also a fan favorite, with the pop singer receiving 8 nominations. The album\u2019s hit single, \u201cAs It Was,\u201d is on its 23rd week on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/charts\/hot-100\/\">Billboard Hot 100<\/a> and has spent 13 weeks at number one. Styles ended up winning \u201cBest Cinematography\u201d for the \u201cAs it Was\u201d music video, Album of the Year for \u201cHarry\u2019s House\u201d and Best Pop for \u201cAs It Was.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the Group of the Year award, Blackpink and BTS were the final nominees. Both K-Pop groups have continued to grow in popularity this past year,&nbsp; and Blackpink even performed at this year\u2019s VMAs. However, despite not attending the show, BTS took home the award for Group of the Year for the fourth year in a row.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While many expected a more well known artist like M\u00e5neskin, Latto or SEVENTEEN to win Best New Artist, Dove Cameron ended up winning. The former Disney star recently released two new hit singles, \u201cBoyfriend\u201d and \u201cBreakfast.\u201d During her VMAs performance. Cameron dedicated the award to \u201call the queer kids out there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bad Bunny was named Artist of the Year, and &nbsp; performed for the show virtually from his concert at Yankee Stadium. The Puerto Rican rapper and singer rose to fame in 2016 with his hit song \u201cDiles.\u201d Nominated alongside artists such as Drake, Ed Sheeran, and Harry Styles, Bad Bunny made history as the first non-English-language act to win Artist of the Year. In his acceptance speech, he stated, &#8220;I always knew that I could become a huge artist without changing my culture, my slang, and my language. I am Benito Antonio Mart\u00ednez Ocasio, from Puerto Rico to the world.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was also another successful year for Billie Eilish with her seventh VMA win. Her hit song \u201cHappier Than Ever\u201d won Song of the Year, having over 760 million streams on Spotify, and beat out other hits like Lizzo\u2019s \u201cAbout Damn Time\u201d and Adele\u2019s \u201cEasy On Me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Newcomer Jack Harlow also had a night full of wins, taking home three awards. His collaboration with Lil Nas X for \u201cIndustry Baby\u201d won Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, and Best Visual Effects. Additionally,&nbsp; his solo song, \u201cFirst Class,\u201d won Song of the Summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Record breaking wins, new achievements of diversity, and some truly unforgettable moments, the 2022 VMAs were yet another successful night in entertainment history.
